Embracing the Seasons of Motherhood

As the leaves change from green to orange to brown and fall, I am reminded that there are seasons of motherhood.

This week I am blessed to spend time with my Mama who is visiting from WA.

This may not seem like a big deal to many, but I am only able to see my Mom in person about every six months given the 3000 mile distance between our homes. The addition of four little ones to our family has basically put my travel plans at a full stop. I am grateful for my Mama that is willing to travel to see us! This trip has been special for another reason. Although Abigail was technically born during my Mom’s last visit in March, she is almost eight months old now and able to actively engage with us. It is so sweet to watch my daughter love on her Grandma as we talk about all her cute little girl clothes!

Now don’t get me wrong…I LOVE my three little boys too!

But there is something extra special about having three generations of ”Rosies” together. We all share the same middle name and I’m hoping that she is a red head in waiting so she can carry on the red hair Gleason gene!

My time with my Mama also reminds me that our role of ”Mom” does not end when our children grow up, leave home, and have kids of their own.

My Mom has dutifully spent the last week of her trip doing the dishes, laundry, changing diapers, breaking up kids fights, making lunches for toddlers that refuse to eat it and playing with my very jumpy golden retriever puppy. She encourages me when I’m feeling down, gives tough love when needed and quietly works behind the scenes to help keep our crazy train moving! Thank you Mama for continuing to nurture me in this new season of life and I hope to one day share those lessons with my daughter.
